Home/Lands

new tour dates just announced!

About the Project

Home/Lands is a musical exploration of home and what it means to belong, led by multi-instrumentalist & composer Alicia Gardener-Trejo.

With collaboration at the heart of the project, the band use the topography of familiar landscapes as catalysts for composition, take poems and short stories as writing prompts, and exchange musical stimulus in a pass-the-parcel approach.

Their music plays with the sonic possibilities of low woodwinds & double bass, experimenting with fresh ideas of melody/bassline responsibilities. With strong influences from the world of jazz and folk, Home/Lands features improvisations, game-pieces and intricately crafted melodies.

Home/Lands Chronicles

The Home/Lands Chronicles project features cross-artform commissions from some of the most exciting artists from five UK cities.

In each city, a composer-musician alongside an artist from another discipline were commissioned to create a series of new works collaboratively with Home/Lands.

Created with inspiration from the stories and memories of local residents and community groups, the artists and places involved are:

Saxophonist/Clarinettist Faye MacCalman & Photographer Victoria Wai (Newcastle)

Trumpeter Hugh Pascall & Spoken Word Artist Marcus Joseph (Beeston, Nottingham)

Guitarist Anton Hunter & Poet Carl Burkitt (Hulme, Manchester)

Saxophonist Emma Johnson & Leeds Animation Workshop (Leeds)

Cellist/Vocalist Laura Collins & Spoken Word Artist Jasmine Gardosi (Birmingham)

Thanks to B:Music for their support of the original 2022 commission, and to Arts Council England, John Feeney Trust, Help Musicians UK, Surge Orchestra and Fizzle/TDE Promotions for their support of the Chronicles Project.
